ETCHINGS IN AMBER is a duo project by two talented young artists, trombonist andvocalist NATALIE CRESSMAN and guitarist MIKE BONO. The two have been honing their duo chops over the past few years while playing with an eclectic range of other bands on the New York scene and internationally. The project features Cressman on vocals (she eschews her trombone for this recording) and Bono on acoustic guitar. They recorded ETCHINGS IN AMBER in October of 2015 at The Bunker in Brooklyn, NY. The project was then mixed by Nick Rives at Capitol Records in Hollywood and mastered by
Kevin Reeves at Sterling Sound in New York City. With its mix of jazz with folk and indie rock, the genre-bending music on this CD is complex yet very approachable. Cressman’s voice has an alluring smoky quality, and her singing style comes out of the tradition of
vocal jazz but with a distinctly contemporary feel. Bono is an accomplished arranger and improviser. The album aptly portrays the collaboration of two utterly contemporary artists steeped in several traditions, who see no barriers between the incalculable
accomplishments of the past and the urgent demands of the present.
